¿Por qué la joyería feminista es una reivindicación social?

From where we stand, I believe that we all, men and women, can bring about change in society.

I also believe that there are times, turning points even, when we decide to take that change a step further.

For me, that moment came during the months of lockdown back in 2020.

I have always felt strongly committed to freedom in terms of making decisions and expressing myself.

But then I began to wonder: was I doing enough to show that commitment in my work?On the one hand, yes. I think that being a craftswoman, working by hand, slowly and lovingly, is already an act of revolution and freedom in the world we live in.

But I needed something else. I looked inside myself. And I realised that my greatest awareness is that of being a woman.That life, after a few setbacks, had forged in me an increasingly feminist way of thinking and understanding.

It was then when I realized that it was time to make jewellery that was more social, more committed.

This would be the genesis of this feminist collection, with jewels symbolizing great concepts: struggle, rights, deliverance, self-respect, self-love, sisterhood, self-esteem and self-improvement.

What do I want to contribute through feminist jewellery?

I would love my feminist jewellery to be channels of truthful expression. My hope is that every woman feeling this way could choose her jewellery out of love for her feminine nature, to present herself to the world without fear.

My ideal is that my feminist jewellery conveys the strength necessary to achieve the freedom we were born with, and that society has managed to take away from us.

They are jewels created in my workshop, in complete freedom, in a space where I let myself be; where there are no judgements, where I can express myself and live in accordance with my ideas, my time, my feelings…

From that place, I create my feminist jewels, hoping that the women who choose them will also take with them a piece of that freedom—that they will make them their own and expand it even more.

What is the symbolism of each piece of feminist jewellery?

In the io collection of feminist jewellery I have included four different models of winged Yonis (vaginas). Since our yonis are all different, I could not create just one model. They are all beautiful and unique, and come in the shape of pendants or pins, rings, and earrings.

Two breast pendants are also part of this collection: one with two winged breasts (symbol of the desexualisation of this part of our body and for free breastfeeding) and a breast and a flower, also winged (supporting all women who have suffered from breast cancer).

Each woman who chooses a piece of jewellery will give it her own meaning. She may find the way to feel confident, to go inwards, to express herself freely…

To sum up: I hope that every woman who wishes it can find in the io feminist jewellery collection a way to express her essence, from her freedom and being herself.
